Independence Day Celebration
Postponed
In September 2018 Ghana's President, Nana Akufo-Addo declared 2019 as the Year of Return in order to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of African slaves in America.
He called on people of African descent (read African-Americans) to return to their home continent (read Ghana) in a “major landmark spiritual and birth-right journey”.
The campaign positions Ghana as a “key travel destination for African Americans and the African diaspora.”
